Hannah McCormick was born and raised in Starkville, Mississippi. She attended Savannah College of Art & Design before moving back to Mississippi to attend Ole Miss and continue to study painting. Living and working in Oxford, she met her husband, woodworker Ryan Pierce, and decided to settle down in Water Valley. McCormick divides her time between teaching private art lessons and working in her personal studio.
McCormick’s Regional Religion show explores “the simple, real magic of a grandmother’s love, the bright colors of vegetables that I might grow from nothing in my own garden, the half-true stories we use to extend magic through children, and the magic they give back to us in return.” Regional Religion is an exercise in noticing and capturing the true magic of identity, place, home, and community.
