Mississippi artist, Martha Ferris, grew up along the Big Black River. Her art often is often site-specific and reflective of place no matter what medium in which she may be working. Ferris uses exacting geometry and brilliant coloring in order to capture the spaces she has explored and the people whom she has met.
Ferris’s Cityscapes series is often a mix of acrylic paint and collage and many have been featured in one of our favorite Jackson art spaces, Fischer Gallery.
We are excited to have Ferris’s work both in the Oxford Treehouse Gallery and in the Chancellor’s House Hotel (starting next week). In addition to the Cityscapes, Oxford Treehouse Gallery has a few of her encaustics and drawings.
Also, thanks to everyone who came out last night for our Oxford Fiber Arts Festival Artist Reception! We had a great time and we hope you did, too! Many of the fiber artists will still be on display in our gallery within the gallery, The Roost, until the last week of February!
