Since the first day we opened the doors of the Oxford Treehouse Gallery, Walter and I have labored to create a space that is a haven for anyone who wants to experience and support the arts in Lafayette County. We’ve had many gracious patrons over the years— both in this community, across the state, and even around the country. We can never thank you enough or show enough gratitude for you.
In starting this gallery, we wanted to champion artists who we really believe in. We made a promise to each other and to you that we would never show an artist who we couldn’t recommend with whole hearts. As artists ourselves, we know how much time, skill, and emotion goes into this work. Our gallery is not just a space stocked with things— but a place filled with soul. Each piece was a part of someone’s life that becomes a part of your life when you take it home.
Sometimes it’s easy to forget that this is a business. These people create as part of their living, not just a hobby. And that buying a pair of Tisch Jewelry Werks earrings, Matt Long mug, or a painting by Benny Melton not only gives you something you can keep indefinitely, but also supports someone in doing what they love and what they have worked hard to be able to do.
Tonight we welcome a new artist into our gallery, Marvin Yates. We’ve spent the week marveling at his realistic watercolors of familiar and gorgeous scenes. It’s always a little daunting to show someone new. We want to be able to give each artist the world and to show off our vibrant and supportive community.
So we ask you to please come visit us for the opening reception of Works by Marvin Yates. Come for a glass (or two) of wine and to share in what makes the bonds of humanity special— shared experiences and thoughtful conversations. Let us show you our gratitude and support each other whenever we can.
