Everyone knows that resolutions for the New Year come and go. But making sure that your life is full of art and beauty is an easy goal to achieve. Here are our 5 Tips on how to curate an art-filled life…
This should be a pretty obvious one. You can buy art for every room in your house (not to mention your porch and even your garage!). But as we’ve said before, don’t discount your work spaces like your office walls or desk. Not to mention that you can always wear your art (we’re looking at your Tisch Jewelrywerks).
Attend Art Events
This is also an easy one to achieve in Oxford and Lafayette County. In addition to our monthly events, the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council calendar is always full, and don’t forget wonderful museums like our own University of Mississippi Art Museum.
Plan Ahead for Festivals.
This goes along with the last tip, but art festivals are great ways of getting to meet artists, gallery owners, and art collectors like yourself. Most festivals have their schedules way ahead of time, so you can plan out your trip or which events you want to attend. In fact, go ahead and pencil in the 7th annual Oxford Fiber Arts Festival from January 23rd to the 28th. We’re having an Artists’ Reception on the Friday, January 27th from 5-8 as part of this wonderful event!
This may come as a shock… but many artists are capable of conversation, friendship, and even love. The artists themselves hold the key to their own art and can always add a different perspective to the world. A great way to meet an artist is to go to openings or receptions that include talks or where the artist will be in attendance. Many artists have websites that include contact information.
Create Your Own.
Making art can be a little intimidating. But everyone has to start somewhere. Whether it’s learning how to make better photos so you can curate your Instagram feed, cracking open a new sketch pad for personal doodles and thoughts, or sitting down with a ball of clay, art can be soothing and gratifying.
